Birdwatching Through the Lens: A Snowy Adventure

Over the MLK weekend, I spent most of my time exploring new photography ideas. One of the highlights was visiting a nearby pond to photograph wildlife. The fresh snow made the scene even more beautiful, and I was excited to capture some bird shots.

Among the many geese and ducks, we spotted both common mergansers and hooded mergansers, which was so interesting. Common mergansers are large ducks with sleek bodies and long, sharp bills perfect for catching fish. The males have bright white bodies with shiny heads that really stood out in the snow. The hooded mergansers were just as cool, especially the males with their unique black-and-white crests that look like a crown when they fan them out.

For this shoot, I used my Nikon D7500 and the Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E lens. It was such a rewarding day, and I’m glad I could capture these beautiful birds in their natural winter setting.
